Advent 2022: Apparently, God is not in a hurry.
Advent is the season in the liturgical year that consists of the 4 weeks leading up to the celebration of Christmas. Advent means arrival. But we are not talking about just any arrival, but specifically about the arrival of Jesus. Immanuel, God with us. Some of us may think of Jesus' arrival just on the day we celebrate Christmas. Not that this is wrong, but there is something transformative in considering this time prior to that day as one of preparation, expectation, longing, and yes, waiting. In Advent we consider what it was like to wait for Jesus to come just over 2,000 years ago. As the sun breaks in the morning and the darkness cannot stop its course, we know that the arrival of Jesus brought light to the nations. We also think about our current wait for his glorious return, whereby he will establish his full reign and, just as he promised, we will be with him forever.
